We understand that expanding into the literary performing arts that means we cannot leave out the art and history of HIp-Hop. The parallels between spoken word and hip-hop, poetry and rap are all intrinsictly tied together. NUBA finds it imperative that we create spaces and cultivate talent within the Hip-Hop community in Denver. We are able to do this through:
The Guillotine - A hip-hop showcase that highlights local artist by booking them for a 20 min set, allowing them to gain exposure and revenue through offering a guarantee, enabling artist to receive 100% of their own presale tickets and sell merch. Artist who have been showcased come from all across the front range, with an emphasis of prioritizing Black and brown emcess ranging in gender, sexual orientation, and education level. Past artist include Kent Washington III, DOT.O, Elle Green, PG, Jelie, The White Moms, and Donny Blot.
BEATLAB - The Beatlab is an immersive workshop that brings together emcees, songwriters, singers, and poets together to be paired with a selected producer and create something in a hour session. This workshop curates collaboration within the community, and focuses the attention on producers who are often left out monetarily in the current state of hip-hop.
